How do I go from being “pretty good at karaoke night” to “I feel comfortable (though maybe nervous) going to a professional audition”?
I’m really good at mimicking other performers, but what does MY voice actually do and how does it sound?
My voice is too XYZ (breathy, flat, buzzy, nasal, you name it!)... how can I fix that?
I want to be cast regularly in shows I am more interested in… how do I do that?
I want to be cast in a musical where I’m not the first adult to bow! Is that even possible?
Or, “How can I be cast in a musical where I’m NOT automatically put into the speaking role.”
Or maybe you are...
Spending time at WAY too many auditions and not being offered roles.
Ending up in roles that don’t feel comfortable or like they “fit”.
Not being sure whether you actually SHOULD go to the audition or not.
Thinking the performance/audition world is a “mystery” that you don’t have insight to.
Filled with jealousy, Jealousy, JEALOUSY!
Feeling alone in your journey and struggles.
When it comes to the voice world, there's an OLD way of doing things... And then there is SCIENCE!
Those of us in the vocology world (the study of the voice) have learned A LOT in the past few years. We now know there are some buzzwords and phrases that you’ve heard before that AREN’T WORKING.
(And, in fact, might be HURTING you...)
Here’s the thing… It’s not that this is completely 100% WRONG…But it’s not the whole picture
What if instead you...
Paid attention to the physical FEELING of singing?
Aimed to sing till you're 70... not just till the big audition is done?
Were able to sing ANY genre of music? Not just the currently popular one?
What if instead WE...
Built a lasting TECHNIQUE focused on sustainable PERFORMANCE... rather than quick vocal "tricks" and gymnastics???
Hi There! I'm Katie...
And let me tell you, I've been through the wringer vocally. From constant vocal fatigue and far too much push, to sustainability, ease, and even MORE beauty, I've been through it all.
Not only that, but I chose to LEARN from it. During my master's degree I studied with some of the top voice scientists and I have to say...
Most singers PUSH WAAAAAAAAY TOO MUCH!! (And I bet you are too!)
I teach EASE. I teach SUSTAINABILITY. And I WALK MY TALK.
Because here's the thing...
Everyone's voice is unique. Trust me I learned this the hard way. No two people are going to sound the same, therefore they cannot be taught with the assumption that one "trick" will work for every singer. That being said, the methodology I use is being performed on some of the largest stages in the world.
“Katie has an affinity for creating a fun and inviting environment in her lessons, an important feature for non-professional singers. Always comfortable and packed with useful technique and tips, Katie’s lessons have helped me recognize and sharpen my vocal potential.” -Ally, NYC
I believe in...
Overall wellness - you body is your instrument... take care of it!
Sustainability - you should be singing until you’re 70... not burn out at 30!
Body Awareness Is Key - your body is giving you information all the time about how it's functioning... LISTEN TO IT!
This is why...
When you work with these three goals in mind you will GET CAST in roles you actually want. Others will start to TAKE NOTICE and think of you specifically when casting shows. You will GAIN CONFIDENCE... enough to be able to take only the auditions and roles you actually WANT to take without self judgement about turning an audition down. Last, you'll be able to recognize when someone is asking you to do something UNHEALTHY with your voice. Through that, you master SUSTAINABILITY, and sing for LIFE!
I'd love to help you make this happen!
"I was a late comer to acting/performing and had no formal training. We built a song book from nothing, prepared for my first formal audition process with confidence, and fundamentally changed the way I sing to a more sustainable approach. Katie has built my confidence and singing continues to become easier as I learn to correct bad habits formed over a lifetime of winging it." - Jonathan, NH
